Finish Well

“But when a righteous man turns away from his righteousness and commits iniquity, and does according to all the abominations that the wicked man does, shall he live? All the righteousness which he has done shall not be remembered; because of the unfaithfulness of which he is guilty and the sin which he has committed, because of them he shall die.” Ez.18:24 NKJV

Any questions?

This is a recurring theme in Ezekial see for instance Ez.3:20, 3:21, 18:26, 33:12-14, 33:19-20

Here’s Ez.33:13 “when I say to the righteous that he shall surely live, but he trusts in his own righteousness and commits iniquity, none of his righteous works shall be remembered; but because of the iniquity that he has committed, he shall die.”

If there is one thing I have learned in my christian walk it is this; you don’t want to mess with God. He says what he means and he means what he says. You might say, “well now, that does not apply to new testament christians, that was the old testament law.”

This is not part of the old testament law, the old testament law was given to Moses, this is something that God spoke to Ezekiel.

Moses live around 1300bc, Ezekiel prophesied around 600bc about 700 years after the law was given by Moses.

Jesus said, “fear Him who has the power to send your soul to hell.”

“Well yeah but I believe that once you are saved you are always saved. My pastor believes that too and so does my whole denomination. So put that in your pipe and smoke it buddy.” You might say.

Well if you could wad that doctrine up into a little wad I would put it in my pipe and smoke it if it  meant that the doctrine was up in smoke for good!

Personally I read my bible and believe what it says. As far as different denominations are concerned I tend to question everything. There is a reason the the Christian churches are so screwed up, so luke warm, so ineffective, so full of sin.

Ask yourself, why is there a doctrine called eternal security even though the Bible has hundreds of verses that tell us just the opposite? You see, it kinda gives you a license to sin, right? Not entirely but somewhat.I mean if you have been predestined for heaven there is nothing you can do to change that, it’s destined by God. And if you have not been chosen then that is just too bad for you. So if you are a chosen one then whether you behave or misbehave it doesn’t matter you are still in. Well it matters a little bit but hey, your still in.

I know, I know, you will go on and on about,” those who are really chosen will behave because God has zapped them (or whatever) so as a result they will live a righteous life.  And the unsaved that are destined for hell are just that, destined for hell, they are glued, screwed and tattooed.”

When you talk like that you are turning us all into zombies. Go back to Ezekiel, does it sound like God is talking to a bunch of zombies? Does God ever talk to us like we are zombies? Or does the scriptures, cover to cover, speak to us like we are real autonomous human beings that are capable of making our own decisions?

You say, “It is all about our free will, you see, when Adam fell so did his will because all of Adam fell including his free will otherwise you could argue that Adam did not completely fall, that he still had an unfallen free will.”

That is a point well made but you didn’t go far enough, you forgot one thing. Ecc.3:11 says, He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also he has put eternity into man’s hearts. ESV

So that little bit of eternity that God has put into man’s heart, is that “fallen” too or is it holy? It is holy of course because it has come directly from the hand of God.

So do you think maybe that may affect man’s ability to chose, the undisputed fact that in all of mankind’s hearts there is something of eternity there? Come on, you know it and I know it, the Bible speaks to us as if we actually have the ability to choose good or evil. If the Bible speaks to us that way then we do have that ability.

And do you suppose that is why God can justly judge all the peoples of the earth instead of mindlessly sending a bunch of zombies to hell and a bunch of zonbies to heaven.

Something to think about. Meanwhile just to be on the safe side I suggest you live a life of obedience. And finish well.

May the Lord bless you and keep you, may he make his face shine on you and be gracious to you, may he lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace.
