Christian Manliness

This is the subject that is on my heart all of the time, I mean all of the time. It consumes me, it brings me great sorrow. I weep for today’s Church here in America and in all the English speaking world.

We are weak. We are weenies. And not just the men, the women too so I hope the title of this post doesn’t offend the members of the opposite sex, I mean no offense, and I think you know what I mean, women are more perceptive, they can spot a weak man a mile away. Men, the ladies don’t want a weak man in their lives, the best thing you can do is listen to what I have to say and do it.

What do I mean by Chritsitian manliness? It has nothing to do with your physical appearance or how athlete you are or how strong or handsome or successful. Is has everything to do with your spirituality. God said of David, “you are a man after my own heart”. He said that about Moses too, and Abraham, Daniel and many others. Ask yourself, are you a man after God’s own heart? If the answer is nope then you are a weeny in God’s eyes.

I remember going to the mens group a few months ago and I announced to the group that I had lost 20lbs but I told them I could think of 4 things that are 10 times harder then losing 20lbs.

  1. Enduring temptations so that after you have passed the test you will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love Him.
  2. Resisting the Devil until he flees from you.
  3. Wrestling against the spiritual forces of evil and coming out on top.
  4. Striving against sin up to the point of shedding your own blood.

There are others that is just a starter list. So men, how are you doing according to that list? Wouldn’t you say the guy who can successfully do those 4 things is well on his way to being a man of God? So get started, what is stopping you?

Do you have a sin problem? Deal with it. Don’t have time? Really? I bet you have time to do a lot of other things. Why don’t you lay aside all those things that are hindering you.

“If anyone wants to be my disciple let him deny himself, pick up his cross and follow me.” Matt.16:24

“Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow (and difficult) the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.” Matt.7:13-14

The greatest man of God of all was Jesus our Savior. He is called the blessed and only Almighty, the King of Kings and Lord of Lords, who dwells in unapproachable light and has everlasting power. You don’t want to mess with Him.

Don’t think for a minute that you can “accept” Jesus into your heart, do a little repentance, get the free gift of forgiveness and a little of that eternal life and you are golden. Are you kidding me? Those who don’t repent and repent successfully will most certainly perish. Jesus Christ could care less about your theology or what your pastor has said. You have His word, you are supposed to read it and do what it says, or else! No excuses.

“Yeah but Ephesians says… yada yada yada.” I know what scriptures you are going to quote me and yes they are all true and I don’t doubt that you have had a salvation experince.

“And once your saved you are always saved, the Bible says so”, you say. Oh really.

“But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality of of any kind of impurity or of greed, because these are improper for God’s holy people. Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving. For this you can be sure: no immoral, impure or greedy person—such a person is an idolater— has any inheritance  in the kingdom of Christ and of God. Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of such things God’s wrath comes on those who are disobedient. Therefore don not be partners with them.” Eph.5:3-7 NIV

Im sure your stunning theology or your pastor can dance around those verses, go ahead, I don’t care, but I will say this you won’t find me standing close to you on judgement day, I don’t want to get singed. Pastors come and go, churches come and go but Gods word stands forever.

Here’s how you get started being a man of God, (snd a woman of God), the next time you are tempted to sin, don’t. That’s it, just stop yielding to your sins. Don’t try to paint this problem in broad strokes, take it one temptation at a time, when it comes, fight! Use the power of God that is residing within you, right now that power is latent, that is because you haven’t called on Him to deliver you—and held onto Him until the deliverance comes. But now you are going to do it, you are going to put your absolute trust in Jesus Christ the all powerful one, and you are not going to give up until either you see blood streaming down your face or Christ delivering you. Wait for Him, that is the most manly thing you can do.

Listen carefully, this is not an option. I am assuming you have had a salvation experience but there is a step two. You must submit to the sanctification process of the Holy Spirit or your salvation will be taken away from you on the last day. Look again at the Ephesian verses I just quoted. And there are similar verses in almost every book in the New Testament.

Christ is no push-over. He wields absolute power over all of us. He rules. If He wants to send you to hell He will, there is nothing stopping Him. Don’t think for a minute you can use His word against Him to get Him to let you into HIs heaven. Therefore we must listen to Him and do what we are told or suffer the consequences. Don’t mess with Him. Man up!

Now may the Lord bless you and keep you, may he lift up his face upon you and be gracious unto you, may he lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace. Amen.
