Im not talking about physically being lost, like someone in the woods. And I am not talking about losing something like an expensive watch and I am not talking about losing a loved one.

I am talking about a spiritual lostness or a metaphysical one. Metaphysical; things that are beyond the physical—things that can’t be measured or observed in the usual scientific way. It often relates to questions about existence, reality, the nature of being, time, space, causality, and even God or the soul.

If you have feelings of being lost you tend to think about such things, they matter to you. You want to know what is the meaning of life, or is it all meaningless. Our schools aren’t any help, they teach us that we all evolved from some green slime that crawled out of the ocean. Gee, that makes me important!

Churches often times don’t offer up much help either. Boring, hypocrites, not any different then anyone else. Where’s the power? The life?

Philosophy? They are sooo lost, after thousands of years of thinking about these things they are still at a big fat zero. They are totally hopeless.

I experienced all these things as a high schooler, after high school I hitchhiked to Berkeley, CA. This was back in 1969 back during the hippie movement. I wanted to find out what they learned about life’s meaning. Nada. Party hardy, that was their answer. I was going to check out the happenings at Golden State Park but I was warned to not go there, people were getting shot and killed. Okay, forget about the hippies, now what? The feeling of being lost was beginning to hurt, I can’t describe it but if you are lost you know what I mean. Suicide? Man, that is heavy.

Then I ran into some Jesus Freaks on the U.C. Berkeley campus. They looked so happy and peaceful and full of… is that joy?… I wasn’t sure, never seen anything like it before. I asked them what’s with all the joy? They said it was Jesus. “Jesus”, I said, “ can’t be I grew up in the Lutheran Church, they believed in Jesus and they weren’t full of whatever it is you got.” They went on to explain that Jesus said he was the truth the life and the way and that no one can get to God the Father except through Him. They also said that Jesus loves me and I could have a one on one relationship with Jesus, imagine that having a real relationship with God Himself? That seemed to good to be true.

So what could a fella do but get on board and that is what I did. That was over 50 years ago so I can tell you with 100% certainty that Jesus Christ is absolutely the way to God, and when you find Jesus you will find true meaning and true answers to all of life tough questions. And you will find that very elusive but very real joy that comes with loving God and experiencing God’s love for you. 

So what are you waiting for? Jesus is called the Great Shepard of the sheep, you are a lost sheep. The great Shepard will leave the 99 sheep who are not lost and will go looking for you. Why? Because He loves you. So don’t be an idiot, go to Him, heck run to Him, He is the one who loves you and gave up His life for you.

Have your doubts? Read the Bible, yes the Bible, it is all true everything written in it, it is God’s word. There is an old testament part and the new testament part, start with the new testament which is the story of Jesus. Read it and find out for yourself what is in it and what it has to offer you, things like forgiveness of sins, eternal life, having a one on one relationship with Jesus Christ right here and now.
