“The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, ‘look at him! A glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!’ Yet wisdom is justified by her deeds.” Matt.11:19
Is Jesus the Son of God or was he just a man. Jesus refers to himself over 90 times in the New Testament as the Son of Man. Does that mean he was just a man?
No one has the power to forgive sins except God alone but Jesus forgave sins when he was here on earth in Matt 9:6 it says, “But that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins—he then said to the paralytic—rise, pick up your bed and go home.”
That phrase Son of Man comes from the book of Daniel in the old testament. Here it is.
“I saw in the night visions, and behold, with the clouds of heaven there came one like a son of man, and he came to the Ancient of Days and was presented before him. And to him was given dominion and glory and a kingdom, that all peoples, nations, and languages should serve him; his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom one that shall not be destroyed.” Dan.7:13-14. ESV
That is the “Son of Man” that Jesus was referring to when he called himself that. And all the Jews and Pharisees knew that, for example at his trial they asked him to tell them plainly are you the Christ, the Son of God.
“Jesus said to him, ‘You have said so. But I tell you, from now on you will see the Son of Man seated at the right hand of Power and coming on the clouds of heaven.’ Then the high priest tore his robes and said, ‘He has uttered blasphemy. What further witnesses do we need? You have now heard his blasphemy.’” Matt.26:64,65 ESV
So they crucified Him because He claimed to be the Christ, the Son of God. When Jesus referred to Himself as the Son of Man they called that blasphemy. If all it meant was that he was a human being then they certainly could not call that blasphemy. He was crucified because he called himself the Son of Man. They knew he was calling himself the Christ, the Son of God.
Of course all us Christians believe this, it is one of the basic tenets of our faith. This post is intended for our Muslim brothers and sisters who have been lied to by their spiritual leaders about Jesus, and by anyone else who is searching for the truth and perhaps is considering Christianity.
This is what we believe. 1. Jesus is both God and man, he was born of the virgin Mary. 2. God sent Jesus his only son to earth. 3. He came to die on a cross to pay the penalty for our sins. 4. He did indeed die on a cross, the scriptures are very clear on that point. I don’t have room on this post to cover all the verses, I suggest you get yourself a bible and read it yourself. There is nothing better then to go to the source material when searching out the truth. 5. He rose from the dead after 3 days. 6. He ascended to heavern. 6. He is now seated at the right hand of the Father.
And while I am at it I just as well tell you that the God of the Bible is a triune God. Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Many scriptures verify that. For example in Genesis God said, “let us make man in our image” Us? And when Jesus was baptized the Holy Spirit descended on him like a dove, and God the Father spoke to Him, so right there you have all three, Jesus being baptized, the Holy Spitit descending on Him, and God the Father speaking from above. All in one verse.
Jesu Christ died for us paying the penalty for all our sins. He died for the sins of the whole world but only those who believe in Him and accept him as their Lord and Savior will receive His forgiveness.
There is no other one who can forgive us our sins. He is the only one who died for us, his death paid the penalty for our sins. When a person sins against the perfectly good God, because He is perfectly good, He is also perfectly just. So all sins must be punished. Of course, you want to be exempted, and so does a lot of us, but how can He be just if He gives some exemptions?
Therefore for Him to be perfect He must punish all sins. And he will. But He is also merciful, kind, and loving. He loves us. That is great news. And He came up with a plan to show mercy to us and still be just. He sent His one and only Son who lived a perfect life making himself a perfect sacrifice for our sins, then he died on the cross paying the penalty for our sins. God punished his Son on our behalf. The death of Christ on the cross satisfied God’s justice. End of story. And don’t forget, on Easter morning He rose from the dead.
So you see, those of you looking for the truth, this is the greatest story ever told. This is it. This is what you have been looking for. This is God, revealed. There is no other way. There is no other God. There is one God and one Way, Jesus Christ
May the Lord bless you and keep you, may he make his face shine on you and be gracious to you, may he lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace. Ame
