Enoch, the 7th from Adam

Did you know that this very Enoch wrote a book? It is called the Book of Enoch and it is stlll available to us today. As a matter of fact you can find it on Amazon, the KIndle version I just downloaded for a measly 49 cents.

Enoch was a godly man whom God whisked away, he never died.

When Enoch had lived 65 years, he became the father of Methuselah. After he became the father of Methuselah, Enoch walked faithfully with God 300 years and had other sons and daughters. Altogether, Enoch lived a total of 365 years. Enoch walked faithfully with God; then he was no more, because God took him away. Gen.5:21-24

Noah was Enoch’s great grandfather. Enoch was still alive when Noah was born.

There are many who believe that this book was truly written by Enoch, that would include all the early Church Fathers who mentioned this book in their writing and in the book of Jude he quotes the book of Enoch in verse 14,

Enoch, the seventh from Adam, prophesied about them: “See, the Lord is coming with thousands upon thousands of his holy ones to judge everyone, and to convict all of them of all the ungodly acts they have committed in their ungodliness, and of all the defiant words ungodly sinners have spoken against him. Jude:14

So yeah this is real. It is not part of the canon of scripture but it is still good stuff and worth reading. He fleshes out the verse in Genesis which says,

When human beings began to increase in number on the earth and daughters were born to them, the sons of God saw that the daughters of humans were beautiful, and they married any of them they chose. Gen.6:1,2

Enoch explains that these were angels who came down to earth and married beautiful women. And they had offspring who were the giants that the Bible talks about here,

The Nephilim were on the earth in those days—and also afterward—when the sons of God went to the daughters of humans and had children by them. They were the heroes of old, men of renown. Gen.6:4

I’m not sure about the “heroes and men of renown” part because according to Enoch they were nothing but trouble for the sons and daughters of Adam. They disrupted God’s plan, they weren’t supposed to be there and this is the main reason God sent the flood.

So God sent Enoch to the “Watchers” which is what they called these angels, (they were sent to observe the goings on here on earth) to tell them that He has pronounced judgment on them basically they were going to Hell. The Watchers in turn in hopes that God would change His mind sent Enoch back to God with a petition pleading for mercy.

God told Enoch, the angels should be petitioning for the good of man not a man petitioning on behalf of some angels. God was not pleased with them because they had gone from heaven to earth. They had heaven but chose to give it up, how crazy is that? Those women must of been really, really beautiful but oh what a price they paid for a little bit of carnal pleasure. I think there is a lesson in here for us.

So where did evil spirits come from? Enoch covers that too, he also reveals to us the Son of Man in his dreams and visions. The Apostle Paul had nothing on him, Enoch spent a lot of time in heaven and was shown practically all of history right up to the end. Yes this is apocalyptic literature . I found it very interesting. You might want to check it out.
